We’re kicking off back-to-school season with exciting news about the H-E-B at Oaks at Lakeway. The Lake Travis community has been buzzing about this hot topic long before they ever broke ground on construction. You can see the familiar H-E-B aesthetic quickly coming to fruition off RR 620.
Is it opening soon? Is there a “real” restaurant in it? Are they hiring?
Yes, yes and yes!
Let’s start by addressing a positive outcome about the new H-E-B beyond the quality products and low prices. It’s bringing jobs to the Lake Travis area — 320 to be exact. At the helm of this new grocery store will be store manager Jim Smith who has previously run the H-E-B locations at Bee Cave and Circle C. Smith knows the area and he knows the clientele, which means he can build a knowledgeable team.
The Lakeway location is currently hiring positions in all departments from customer service assistants to food service representatives to bartenders, cooks and cake decorators.
It will take more than 300 employees to staff this 100k square foot grocery store, which is one of the largest locations in the Austin area. Just for comparison’s sake, the H-E-B at Four Points is around 85k square feet and the H-E-B at Bee Cave is just over 96k square feet. Applications are being accepted online at heb.com/lakeway.
And speaking of food, let’s dish about the new restaurant in the H-E-B, Table 620. This not your average grocery store cafe, my friends! This is a real restaurant with its own walls and doors. In fact, it is truly unique to the Lakeway area and pretty much the first one of its kind for H-E-B in Central Texas.
While Table 620 gleans inspiration from Cafe Mueller by H-E-B at 1801 E. 51st Street, it’s private like the Oaks Crossing Restaurant & Bar in the H-E-B at Stone Oak (San Antonio).
Table 620 will be adjacent to the side of the store with two entrances. It features indoor and outdoor patio seating, a stage for live music and plenty of turf for little kiddos to roam freely. The chef-inspired menu items are still being finalized, so we don’t know exactly what the cuisine will be, but we do know it’s an eclectic offering. The restaurant will have a full bar with a wide selection of Texas craft brews and the local brands we love.
The opening date? (Drum roll, please!) The Grand Opening will be on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.
What’s cool about this new store is the level of excitement is shared between us, Lake Travis residents and H-E-B. They’ve be eyeing the Lakeway community for more than 10 years. They know the area and they know their customers. Based on their community involvement and family-friendly focus, I have no doubt that they’ll play an active role in our community as a business and as a neighbor.

I am so happy for the Lakeway area. My family and I have lived here since 1990 and I remember the old Randalls! Our carts would roll down the hill with all groceries inside because the parking lot was so vertical. Then, when the new Randalls opened, and then Target opened, we thought that Lakeway was so happening! I can’t wait for the new HEB to open and I especially like the restaurant they have planned. Thank you, Lake Travis Lifestyle, for this update. Lakeway locals are excited beyond words!
