What’s your favorite dance move?
This question might seem like a bad pick up line to some, but to others the question is quite serious. From Tango to Swing, from Two Step to Rumba, there are as many styles of dance as there are cultures in this world.
Since my experience on the dance floor promptly stopped in high school (getting called out as an awkward dancer can do wonders to the self-esteem, let me tell you), I was reserved about the thought of being thrown into the action of dance once again.
But this fear of dance is something the instructors at Go Dance hope to rid Austinites of, in a fun and educational atmosphere.
Go Dance is the undefeated winner of the “Best Dance Lessons” category in the Austin Chronicle Readers’ Poll. And the opportunity for you to take the best dance lessons in Austin is here!
In October 2013, Go Dance opened their 3rd location right here in the Lake Travis area just behind The Grove. It’s in this new studio that you’ll have the chance to learn all manner of dance, no matter what your current skill set or focus.
Mylie Alrich, owner and instructor at the studio, first realized her zeal for dance when she signed up for dance classes at Go Dance in 1996. A few months after that, she registered for instructor training classes, and before she knew it she was getting involved with the studio’s administration. In 2003, Mylie officially took over the reins as owner.
“There’s a lot of different motivations that bring people in, some people are just looking for a fun creative outlet, some people like the personal challenge aspect of it, and there is the fitness aspect of it,” Mylie mentions as we tour the expansive ballroom that overlooks the rolling hills of the Lake Travis area.
“So I started doing a bunch of different dances at once. I actually started at Go Dance by signing up for the unlimited group dancing lessons. And I signed up for that and tried all different type of dances, so I was doing Two Step and Swing and Ballroom; I really jumped in the deep end.”
Mylie’s love of dance was nurtured and grew while she learned more about the different styles of dance offered at the studio. It’s this passion that ignites the soul of all dancers, a flame Mylie and her instructors fan and build upon.
From couples learning their first dance for their impending nuptials, to curious persons that are looking to brush up on a few steps, Go Dance has you covered. There are group classes, private lessons and no partner is required — only an open mind and a willingness to have fun.
You can find out more about their upcoming classes and open houses on their website.
