Many of you may remember Flores as the Mexican restaurant that first opened its doors in the corner spot in the strip of retail shops next to Home Depot at Four Points.
I must admit … I was never a huge fan of the location or the food at Flores — it was all pretty average. It was more about having a place to go for halfway decent tex-mex without making the trek to Chuy’s and waiting an hour for a table.
But just like many of you, I kept going back — the place was always packed. And after trying a few more dishes, I really started to like the tex-mex at Flores.
After a couple years, the word got out. Even with the addition of an outdoor patio, the space was not enough to hold all the people that heard about Flores as the place to go for tex-mex and a margarita in the Lake Travis area.
When the Trails at 620 began development, Flores was one of the first restaurants to break ground — and they went for it! The new space must be about ten times larger than that old location by the Home Depot.
There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to accommodate the steady flow of folks looking to satisfy that hankerin’ for tex-mex and a cold drink. But even with the larger space, you might be waiting up to an hour or more during a busy weekend night.
The more popular covered patio area overlooks the large play area, making it a breeze to eat out with kids. It should come as no surprise that Lake Travis Lifestyle listed Flores as one of the top kid friendly restaurants in the Lake Travis area.
Flores is also known as one of the top spots for large groups, co-workers gathering for a weekday lunch, families and friends joining for a Sunday meal, and everything in between. The Trails at 620 location is especially popular with the Pop Warner Football players and coaches after a long day of practice or big game.
It has been really cool to see the Flores Family take that small place next to the Home Depot and build a following that has made them one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in the Lake Travis area.
A great location with plenty of space for kids to play is always a hit with all the families in the area, but that’s not going to keep the doors open. Flores consistently serves up fresh tex-mex for a fair price with great customer service — or maybe it has something to do with really strong margaritas.
Either way, be sure to check them out in Four Points or Lakeway. Both locations have playscapes.
