Faraday’s Kitchen Store, located in the Shops at Hill Country Galleria, is the perfect place for people who love to cook (or those who shop for people who do). As Austin’s largest kitchen store, the locally owned and operated business provides a unique experience for people interested in cooking – regardless of their experience and skill level.
The retail store is chock full of anything you’d need to create masterpieces in the kitchen – cookware, gadgets, utensils, knives, gifts, accessories, cookbooks, gourmet food items and more. They pride themselves on offering “good, better and best” product assortment for all skill and income levels. I like that. They realize that while some people want top-of-the-line products, not everyone is in the market for (or can afford) the very best.
The knowledgeable staff is prepared to make recommendations and discuss the benefits of each item in inventory, so shoppers can make educated decisions about their purchases. They’re honest without being pushy. They’re also helpful if you’re looking for a gift for someone. They have many great ideas and can help steer you in the right direction. Warning – you’ll likely find plenty of things you didn’t even know you needed – but once you’ve seen you now can’t live without (such as the handy contraption that doubles as a knife holder AND ipad holder – perfect for online recipes).
In addition to the retail store, Faraday’s offers an assortment of classes and events for all skill levels. The cooking classes are held in the kitchen area at the back of the store, where participants watch as the chef-instructor does a demonstration and prepares recipes (to sample, of course).
The classes range from 10 to 15 students per class and are sold on first come, first serve basis. One thing to note – they don’t hold classes from Thanksgiving to New Year’s, but already have a “Hands On Pasta Making” class scheduled for January. Click on the schedule for more info.
The classes make for fun group outings, date nights, celebration or even team-building activities. It’s also a nice gift idea for the chef who has everything….
The littlest chefs are not excluded. During the summer, Faraday’s offers weekly camps for children aged 7-15. The kids learn everything from safety in the kitchen, preparation, menu development, cooking skills, nutrition and etiquette. The camps are hands on, and campers get to taste their creations. There’s a different theme each week. The summer 2014 schedule comes out in March, so if you’re interested keep an eye out for that – last year all the camps sold out.
So whether you’re looking for something specific or just want to browse, pop into Faraday’s Kitchen Store, located directly across from Best Buy and Marshall’s in the Shops at the Galleria. They often have samples or product demonstrations, and the helpful staff will be prepared to answer questions or assist with your needs.
