Do-It-Yourself Dog Grooming in the Lake Travis Area

Written by Mandy Spivey | November 25, 2013

wash baysFrom time to time, it happens. Usually it’s when my mom comes to visit and insists that we take our Weimaraner Moses, to the groomers to “freshen him up,” she always tells me. Some days that task goes smoother than others.

We have attempted to simply schedule an appointment with dog groomers in the Lake Travis area, but our big guy is a nervous pup and can’t deal with new people and loud equipment.

I guess I can’t blame him. A few years ago when Moses had a grooming appointment, we left him with the groomers and were told to come back in an hour. Within 10 minutes we received a call from them; Moses had become so upset and scared, he almost hanged himself when he tried to jump out of the waist-high dog wash bays.

At times when real grooming is necessary and the alternative of a professional groomer, washing your dog in the shower or out in the backyard won’t cut it, a self-service dog wash can be a lifesaver.

Jake and I brought Moses to Dirty Dog in Lakeway, and he is like a brand new dog again. Granted, he still knew we were up to something and tried to escape a few times, but in the end he is a cleaner dog for it. Dirty dog has the option of leaving your pooch for full service grooming (with an appointment) or you can clean him/her yourself, as we usually do with Moses.

Mud Puppies is another option for a self-service dog wash in the Lake Travis area. They have everything you need to get Fido squeaky clean and smelling good. You can also make an appointment to drop off your four-legged friend for full service grooming that includes a tooth brushing.

Professional Dog Grooming

If your dog is a grooming veteran and your are looking for a professional groomer, check out Puppy Love Dog Grooming. Near Lohman’s Crossing is another Lakeway favorite, Dogtopia dog groomers and pet sitters. Closer to Bee Caves is A Pink Poodle pet store and groomers.

If only I had a little grooming place near me like you do. There’s nowhere for me to wash my dog in my house. I’m left with trying to find him a groomer every time. Although, it is a great way of making sure he gets deep cleaned every time. Thanks for sharing that grooming company.
