Lake Travis Community Library: A True Community Library

Written by KT Tubb | April 5, 2016

Lake Travis Community Library

A little before noon — before lunches, tears, and naps — it’s all smiles for the lucky tots around the lake who listen to Ms. Morgan read her library books.

Ms. Morgan is UT alumni Morgan McMillian, the seven-year director for the Lake Travis Community Library. And the books she’s reading belong there.

With a stone archway as a backdrop overlooking a serene pond, it’s an ideal way to spend a Tuesday morning.

Pride Inclusive Sports: Summer Camps for Kids of all Levels

Written by Marjorie Vesper | April 4, 2016

Pride Inclusive Sports

Spring break is over — a now distant blur of vacay glory packed to overflow with sunscreen, great drinks and likely, whining kids.

But devoted (or perhaps panicked) parent that you are, you’ve already started thinking ahead to the biggest of all breaks — the mother if you will of school-free calendar days that stretch for miles — summer.

If you can swing it you’ll pack the car and ear plugs, load those cute rug-rats up and head somewhere fun a time or two over the long, hot void that is summer vacation.

But the smarty-pants parent that you are (and likely still panicked), you’ll also be looking to offer your brood some much-needed structure and activity to survive until school gears up once more come fall.

With living an active life pretty big in the Lake Travis area, programs and camps geared towards getting out and moving do well and book early for the kiddos. And though there are enough options and interests available to include “everyone,” inevitably someone always gets left out when it comes to sports recreation, no matter what season we’re in.

Julie Slim and Rendezvous: The Whole World in Music

One spring evening at Haven Bistro on the Lake, diners are enchanted by the suave notes of North Austin singer-songwriter Julie Slim and her band Rendezvous.

Some in the packed house come from as far as Houston to dine and listen to the music.

Others just stroll over from their condo at the Island on Lake Travis.

Iron Tribe Fitness Lakeway: Community is the Cornerstone

Written by Tiffini Brock | February 25, 2016

Well it’s official.

The groundhog not only predicted an early spring, but he seems to have taken winter with him into the ground.

Warmer weather is on your mind. And since you live next door to Lake Travis — the bathing suit mecca of Austin — getting (and keeping) in shape is also something that might be on your mind this time of year.

Luckily you have a plethora of fitness options, many of them right along the 620 corridor.

Spicewood Vet Mobile Care: Serving Lake Travis Area Pet Owners at Home

Written by Mandy Spivey | February 23, 2016

Kristin and Brady Bennett from Spicewood Vet Mobile Care

Our dog, Moses, loves a good car ride. He’s the first to hop in the back of the Jeep at the mere mention of the words like “park” or “ride.” But he’s always onto us when he knows we’re headed to the veterinarian.

You might have similar dilemmas when it comes time to bring your favorite four-legged friend in for a check-up or for yearly vaccinations.

Moses can deal with all of the attention from veterinarians and their team, but sometimes it’s not always an easy trip. He can get nervous when separated from us for any length of time, so we were interested in trying a new type of medical service for dogs and cats — mobile veterinary services.

If you’ve tried mobile pet grooming and liked it, you might want to give mobile vet services a chance, too.

Instead of making a nervous pooch more anxious with a drawn out trip to the vet, let the vet come to you and check out your pets in the comfort of your own home.
