If you live in the Lake Travis area, you probably drive by YES Imports all of the time. If you haven’t stopped by to check it out, you should definitely add that to your to-do list. YES Imports, located at 3307 Ranch Road 620 N, opened in May 2011, and has been delighting Austin with rustic Mexican furniture, clay pottery, interior and outdoor artwork, blown glass and more ever since.

Need a 5-foot-tall pink flamingo? They’ve got one. Looking for a herd of metal longhorns? Check. A cowboy boot? A herd of flying pigs? Check and check. It’s impossible to walk through the huge, colorful lawn of YES Imports without cracking a smile.

Maria & Kyndal’s sister store, Duchess of Lakeway opened its doors on August 11, giving Lake Travis fashionistas another reason to shop. While Duchess boasts the same sophisticated yet fun, beachy vibe as Maria & Kyndal’s, the price point is lower, making it the perfect destination for cost-conscious customers.

This highly anticipated opening generated a big buzz in Austin because so many Lake Travis area residents are already such loyal shoppers at Maria & Kyndal’s in Westlake and Lakeway. Maria Harrington, who brought her boutique concept to Austin from Memphis a few years ago, has always been deeply passionate about the fashion industry and it shows. Austin may be known as the Music Capital of the World, but it’s also home to a thriving fashion and retail industry. Yesterday, on Design Lab Day (as proclaimed by Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell), Design Lab opened its doors at Oasis, Texas. This 3,000 square foot showroom overlooking Lake Travis is the brainchild of Austin’s most well-known designer Linda Asaf. It features over 27 diverse Texas-based fashion designers who are at the top of their game.

Located adjacent to the Oasis Restaurant at Lake Travis, Design Lab has an industrial-vintage theme with ample room to house current Texas designers. It can easily accommodate new lines and seasonal or pop-up collections, which makes it a relevant hub for Texas designers as industry growth continues. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Asaf at various events over the years, so I know if this is her vision it will be impeccable.
