Trapped in Lake Travis? How to Travel Safely with (and without) Uber and Lyft

Written by Cathy Hale | July 21, 2016

We sure are lucky that the Lake Travis area is such a great place to live with so many awesome things to do right here in our backyard. Especially now that we can’t get out.

These days, if you’re making plans to leave your home without your car, chances are you have a driver. And that’s not because you’re fancy-schmancy … it’s because you have limited options.

Have you tried to catch a cab lately? Good luck with that.

It’s funny how the Hailacab (Yellow Cab) app indicates you only have a quick 15 minute wait and then when you book it, the wait jumps to 45 minutes or it says there’s no service at all in your area. Hmmm. Now what?

Lost dog? Electrician? Piano lessons? Connecting with Your Lake Travis Neighbors

Written by Cathy Hale | June 30, 2016

Do you need a handy man who can hang that heavy mirror over the sofa in your living room?

Did a cute kitty wander up to your front door without a collar?

Did you just buy a new home with a pond and you’re wondering how to maintain it?

Did you spot a bobcat or mountain lion in your yard?

Is your sprinkler system on the fritz?

Every so often we need to exchange information with our neighbors because they “get it” — they live here too.

Although it seems like a nifty idea, you can’t really roam the neighborhood with a megaphone shouting, “I need a reliable plumber!” or “I just saw a snake! Who can tell me that quote about ‘red touch yellow, kill a fellow?!?'”

This is when social media networks and Facebook groups for neighborhoods come in handy.

Lake Travis Water Usage: We Have Issues …

Written by Marjorie Vesper | May 31, 2016

There’s been a lot of hubbub lately in my neighborhood on the good ol’ fashioned use of sprinklers in a time when, frankly, we Lake Travis locals have seen a veritable poop-ton of rain.

You know the scene — you’re driving or rather floating down the street on your merry little way to H-E-B, waves of water slamming down on your windshield with tsunami force, when you see it. Sprinklers running full blast in the HOA common areas.

Your eye gets that funny little twitch of agitation which over time will result in a crease no amount of Botox can heal. This kind of waste really gets to you, and pounding fist on steering wheel you vow to raise a stink at the next board meeting darn it all.

But your annoyance over such an environmental (and monetary) slap in the face, grows to sheer panic as you realize that your very own sprinklers are likely going off. Right now.
