But before you begin this new year with all of your resolutions and such, we wanted to share a few things we and other Lake Travis residents have noticed.
Things that make us go hmmm …
In 2015, it was icebergs, fried chicken, and traffic.
In 2016, Lake Travisites were all about the great outdoors, shopping, a white crystalline substance called salt, and poking fun at themselves. Do the words “monogrammed Yeti” ring any bells?
Every topic we tackle isn’t always a hit. And we’re okay with that. The ones that resonate with YOU tell a cool story about our community.
We know you look forward to our Weekend Roundups every Friday and you like our monthly giveaways — ‘cuz winning free stuff from awesome Lake Travis area businesses is just plain cool.
We can also surmise that you enjoy your Hill Country sunsets, you like new restaurants, and you’re always jazzed about one topic in particular — our fabulously full Lake Travis.
We’ve been going at it for 3½ years now! And we’re quickly approaching 800 published posts.

The employee shortage is not a new topic in the Lake Travis area.
We wrote about it a year ago, crunching the numbers to illustrate exactly how serious the problem is.
We recently said goodbye to our friends at Kid-E-Shack, who closed their doors citing hiring woes as one of the main causes. And they aren’t alone.
The “Help Wanted” and “Now Hiring” signs aren’t just peppering the Lake Travis area, they’re blanketing it.
In a shopping center with 15 retails shops, you can easily see 12 signs posted. What’s scary is the shortage of skilled workers is a problem in Westlake, Bee Cave, Lakeway, Steiner Ranch, and Four Points. It’s beyond problematic.
We know community leaders are doing their best to find answers, like van-pooling, but efforts are slow-going.
In the time it takes to implement solutions, how many more businesses will be forced to close their doors?

In 2005, Lake Travis resident Elisa Graves was over-the-moon about her beautiful five-month-old daughter when she got the devastating news that she had breast cancer. It was Stage IIA Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Breast Cancer.
Elisa vividly remembers the sheer disbelief …
“I was in my 30’s, with my precious daughter, loving life more than ever because my dreams of being a mom had finally come true after the loss of three second trimester babies — our precious gift from God was more amazing than I could have ever imagined,” Elisa recalls.
“Aside from new mommy fatigue, I felt great!”
“There was no way I was sick. This has to be a mistake.”
As the reality of her cancer diagnosis slowly sunk in, within five days of receiving the news from her doctor Elisa began her treatment journey with her head held high.
