Ode to Moms: What We Really Want for Mother’s Day in Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | May 10, 2017

A mother is a special member of an elite, yet exhausting club.
We’re constantly stressed, busy, multitasking and in need of a foot rub.

Mom life forces you to do things you never thought you’d do.
Like remain calm when you see bodily fluids and not shriek, “Ewww!?”

Over the years you’ve cleaned up drool, spills, poop and pee.
If you’ve caught vomit in your purse at the Galleria, you’ve exclaimed, “yippee!”

On the way to school, practices and games with healthy snacks in tow you thrive.
620 is backed up for miles? We’ll take Serene Hills Drive!

You can survive on Cheetos, Goldfish, Greek yogurt and coffee of Krup
It doesn’t phase you when your son – in All Star Burger – hands you his youth athletic cup.

Voting in the Lake Travis Area on May 6: General Elections & Special Elections

Written by Cathy Hale | May 3, 2017

If you haven’t noticed, Central Texas roadways are peppered with campaign signs — both professionally printed and hand-scrawled. That’s because it’s election time.

On Saturday, May 6, residents who haven’t participated in early voting in the Lake Travis area are headed to the polls. Voting will take place for City of Bee Cave, City of Lakeway, Dripping Springs, Llano, as well as many other municipalities.

Unlike many elections that roll gently through the Texas hillside, this one is causing quite a stir.

Last week, an article in the Bee Cave Bee about LTYA sparked a hot debate on Facebook. In addition to lively debates over City Council members, there are special election items that have been creating a buzz in Lakeway and Llano.

To prepare you for the big day, we’re giving you a snapshot of the May 6, 2017 Joint General and Special Elections ballot, so you know exactly what’s what.

‘Driver-Shaming’ on Lake Travis Highways: Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right

Written by Cathy Hale | April 12, 2017

Cut off by an aggressive driver with a horn and plenty of attitude on 620?

Did a fancy-schmancy Escalade angrily pass you on the left only to get stopped right ahead of you at a red light. (What is that? Come on, people.)

As you shout obscenities that drown out Prime Country on your Sirius radio, you want one thing. Immediate revenge. We get it. Bad drivers are infuriating. So you grab your phone and take a pic …

Wait — NO!  That’s totally wrong. It’s incredibly dangerous. It’s also breaking the law.

If this driver-shaming trend continues it means for every one bad driver, we get two? No, thank you.

#ThrowbackThursday in Lake Travis: Remember Four Years Ago When …

Written by Cathy Hale | April 6, 2017

Once in a while it’s fun to take a look back instead of jumping ahead. Forget the latest commercial real estate rumors and ignore your inner dialogue as you drive by a construction site on FM 620 and muse, “I bet that’s gonna be a bank or a mattress store …”

Do you remember when the news of Oaks at Lakeway first started snagging headlines?

It was June 2013. That’s when we discovered a custom-designed 90k square foot H-E-B was headed our way. We knew it would be big and fab-u-lous, which it is. The only thing we’re wondering is where is our nifty golden sailboat sculpture from the rendering above? I mean, who doesn’t appreciate a flaxen nautical monument?

If you’ve been living in Lake Travis for a long time, you’ll probably remember the hot topics of the day in 2013. If not, enjoy reliving some of LT’s big moments.

Aggressive Drivers on Lake Travis Roads: Just Stop It.

Written by Cathy Hale | January 12, 2017

Aggressive driving is bad news in Lake Travis.

On busy roadways like 620 and 71, it is also deadly.

Over the years, we’ve lost wonderful community members to auto accidents, so we know better. If everyone is aware of the real dangers that exist on our roads, why do we have so many reckless drivers?

And as a community, what can we do about it?

Yesterday I witnessed a truck get t-boned because a driver made an improper left turn across two lanes of oncoming traffic on 620. During 5 o’clock rush hour. The truck never saw it coming.
