Honk if You Love Traffic: Your Lake Travis Transportation Snapshot

Written by Cathy Hale | September 28, 2015

As residents and business owners in the Lake Travis area, we all get caught up in the excitement of what’s next on the “new in Lake Travis” list. Most of us are genuinely excited to see Oaks at Lakeway, more preschool options, new local shops and, of course, new restaurants.

But with all of the excitement in the air, the traffic concerns are becoming more substantial. Let’s face it, growth will happen. It’s inevitable. We can’t change that. We’ll probably see more storage facilities, car dealerships and other types of things along RR 620 and Highway 71 that some of you will consider to be … well, er … less appealing.

On the flip side, most of us who live in the Lake Travis area love it here! While we may complain about the traffic, we want to stay. This is where we moved to raise our children, take advantage of some of the best schools in Austin, enjoy life in the Texas Hill Country and own a slice of serenity in this often overwhelming, over-connected life.

Enter Texas Department of Transportation findings.

This is where the rubber meets the road. No pun intended.

Bucket List Collage

It’s very possible that you have your own bucket list. Go parachuting. Have an all-nighter in Vegas. Eat Belgian waffles in Belgium. Fly first class. You know, that list of stuff you want to accomplish before you kick the bucket.

But what about a list of things you absolutely must do right here in the Lake Travis area?

After having a conversation with a native Texan that had never been to a high school football game — unbelievable, right? — I started to put together the Lake Travis bucket list.

So if you’re just visiting or you’ve been here for a while, this is the list. Things you must do. Places to eat. Stuff to see.

Get Your Drank On … in Target?

Written by Cathy Hale | September 2, 2015

Target is the best. And if it’s already the best, how could it possibly get better?

[Insert cocktails here.]

If you’ve stopped by Target for paper towels and walked out with a shopping cart full of strawberry-scented shaving cream, oodles of gummy fruit snacks, two decorative throw pillows, a lawn chair, a matching set of 12 Halloween plates you found in the dollar bin (score!), a ceramic coffee mug with an owl on it (but he has a mustache!) and a Sponge Bob pinata (for no particular reason), then you understand how bonkers it would be if Target served alcohol.

Can you image how insanely impulsive your purchases would be if you were sipping lemon sours during your stroll through the infinite sea of infinity scarves? As the millennials would say, “I literally can’t even.”

A lot has happened over the summer. You might be one of the many people that made a move and now call the Lake Travis area home. A beautiful place to live and the ability to find a job is a good thing … the back to school traffic is not.

The Austin Independent School District, University of Texas, and Leander ISD, all make the list for the largest major employers in Austin, Texas. Seasonal Employees heading back to work with the start of the school year, parents dropping off their kids, and high school students that drive, will add to the amount of cars on the roads in the area.
