People of Lake Travis

Lake Travis Locals Collage

Welcome to Lake Travis Locals — a growing collection of all the wonderful people that are the heartbeat of this community.

We have long time locals. And transplants that got here as fast as they could.

People from the West Coast. And people from the East Coast.

We have snowbirds that are here for the warmer weather.

We have locals that are retired and young professionals that are just getting started.

We have families. And that means we have children — a lot of children.

We have locals that live in the suburbs. And locals that choose to be tucked away back in the Hill Country with a piece of land.

The Lake Travis area is filled with so many people from so many different places and different cultures. But we all decided to be here for one reason or another.

5 Things You Should Know About Cold & Flu Season

Written by Cathy Hale | October 21, 2015

It’s that time of year again in Lake Travis when even the healthiest kiddos (and parents) get sidelined by cold and flu season. In fact, the flu is already in Texas. Can I hear a unanimous “ugh?” UGH.

That’s why we’re chatting with Lake Travis pediatrician Dr. Danielle Grant of Beansprout Pediatrics to get her advice about the best ways to keep our kiddos healthy. She’s a mom of three youngsters herself, so she totally understands how one child with a cold can bring an entire household to a screeching halt. And that’s not fun for anyone!

From flu shots to Tamiflu to the cedar fever misnomer, here are 5 things you should know about cold and flu season:

How Many People Are Really Moving to Texas?

Written by Todd Hower | October 8, 2015

Welcome To Texas -- David Herrera CC Flickr

It should come as no surprise that there are a lot of people moving to Texas.

And a lot of these people are moving to Austin. There’s not a week that goes by that Austin isn’t making it to the top of a list as the best city for [insert title here].

Why are so many people moving here? Jobs, schools, music, outdoor activities, nightlife, you name it.

It’s obvious that with all the growth we are experiencing in the Lake Travis area, people aren’t just making their way out to Texas and settling down under the big city lights of Austin.

You may be wondering … where are all these people coming from?

The 2015 Edition of the Texas Relocation Report was released on October 1, 2015. It’s time to reveal the truth. Is everyone that moves to Texas coming from California?

What you may not know is that a good chunk of Texans are getting out of Texas.

Let’s take a look at not only who’s moving to Texas, but where are the Texans going that leave Texas?

This is Where You Live

How lucky are you?

You live in an amazing place. There are a lot of places that are just as beautiful. But what makes them so beautiful? Hill Country and lakes? Canyons and parks? The ocean? Mountains? Sure, those all make a place beautiful.

Places that are beautiful are places that are worth checking out — and people like to figure out how to move to these beautiful places.

I’ve been there. I moved to a small mountain town in Colorado in the early 90’s. About five years after I moved there the place started to get discovered. At least in my eyes. Talk to a local that has been living there for twenty years and they would say it started to get discovered about five years after they moved there.

Developers move in and take over places that were once quiet. But the reason they move in is because the demand is there. One condo project goes up and sells out before the slab is poured. Other developers join in. Next thing you know you have more condos. Apartments. Homes. Walmart. People. Traffic. Your world changes.

The Grocery Store Debate in Lake Travis: H-E-B, Randalls or Whole Foods?

Written by Cathy Hale | September 30, 2015

Shopping for groceries. Love it or hate it?

Are you a prepared shopper with a grocery list, an expandable coupon organizer and a bevy of reusable totes?

Or are you the frantic shopper who runs in with good intentions and then your eyes glaze over with defeat somewhere in the frozen waffle aisle?

Whatever kind of shopper you are, we all have something in common — we need food — and most of us have preferences when it comes to choosing the place to shop for our groceries.

It’s the great grocery store debate in Lake Travis:

Where do you like to shop for groceries in Lake Travis?

Which grocery store do you shop at most of the time?

I find it interesting that many residents in the Lake Travis area have a definite preference of where they ideally like to shop, but that’s not always where they go. Why? Two answers stand out — convenience and parking (or the lack thereof).
