Lake Travis Area Parks Guide: Reimers Ranch Park

Written by Todd Hower | July 29, 2015

Reimer Ranch Perdenales River

This old ranch is a classic Lake Travis area getaway for mountain biking, hiking, climbing, swimming, and fishing.

Reimers Ranch Park is a combination of pristine parkland, open space and reserve land in western Travis County with almost three miles of continuous frontage along the Pedernales River. With over 2400 acres, it’s almost twice as big as Pace Bend Park and the largest park in Travis County.

Before this land was acquired by Travis County back in 2005, it was owned by Milton and Joy Reimers. The ranch was a popular hunting and rock climbing destination. Travis County Parks has done a really nice job renovating the facilities at the park. There are now flush toilets and covered picnic areas at the climbers trailhead as well as more extensive restroom facilities and outdoor showers at the mountain bike trailhead.

Lake Travis Area Trails: Bull Creek Greenbelt

Written by Mandy Spivey | August 25, 2014

Bull Creek 2

When you’re in search of a little hike and time alone in nature, take a short drive up Capital of Texas Highway to Bull Creek in West Austin. Here you will find what many locals hail as the most scenic greenbelt around, complete with limestone cliffs, babbling creeks, seasonal wildflowers and natural flora and fauna.

The history of Bull Creek goes back to prehistoric ages, namely the Early Archaic to Late Prehistoric phases, however the early Anglo settlers of this era were Will Preece, wife Elizabeth Gideon, and sons Richard Lincoln Preece and Will Jr.. The Preece family owned a few thousand acres of land in central Texas in the areas of Austin and Cedar Park, and after settling in the Bull Creek area in 1838, the plot began to earn its reputation as one of the prime spots for hiking and swimming.
