How low will Lake Travis go?

Written by Cathy Hale | July 25, 2018

With temperatures reaching a record-smashing 110 degrees on Monday, summertime in Texas is causing chaos. The state’s electrical grids are maxing out, animal shelters are in dire need of help, and the well-known Cavender’s Boot City sign (on Lamar Blvd.) burst into flames.

Closer to home, you have been watching our beloved Lake Travis disappear at a rapid rate (some of it due to evaporation). According to the LCRA, Lake Travis is currently 66% full (as of July 25, 2018). More alarming is the storage projection for Lake Travis through January 2019. Let’s say; it’s bleak.

Meet Beth Ann Hawley of PAIYH Dance Studios in Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | July 18, 2018

It’s not just about football out here in the Texas Hill Country. You have hundreds of youngsters pursuing their dreams in dance and cheer. And that’s where PAIYH Dance Studios in Hill Country Galleria fits into the equation.

PAIYH is pronounced “Pie-Yuh” and it’s an acronym for “Put Art In Your Heart.” As of June 2018, a familiar name in the world of dance in the Lake Travis area took the reigns of this studio, Beth Ann Hawley.

You may remember her from our tribute to Cavalettes and Legacies. Yep, Beth Ann was on the oh-so-famous Kilgore College Rangerettes drill team, the Coco Chanel of dance. She was also on the Texas Pom Squad at UT where she received her Texas Teaching Certification in Dance and a BA in Theatre & Dance.

Beth Ann’s love of dance and her ability to inspire others with dance is just part of her DNA.

Be Alive and Be Well in Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | May 23, 2018

If you’ve lived in the Lake Travis area for a while, you may remember when Hill Country Apothecary opened its doors in 2014. It was the first pharmacy of its kind in the Lakeway area.

Today, the rest of the holistic vision that launched Hill Country Apothecary has taken shape in Bee Cave in the form of Alive + Well.

The beautiful new building located at 3944 S. Ranch Road 620 houses four businesses dedicated to health and wellness under the Alive + Well umbrella. You could say they are, in fact, alive and well in Lake Travis: Alive + Well, Elle’s Cafe & Coffee, Hill Country Apothecary, and Drip Drop IV Vitamin Bar.

Yoga, infrared sauna therapy, a Glutathione IV drip or avocado toast. Let’s take a look at the fab four who are all about your well-being, and conveniently located under one roof.

What’s Opening & Closing in the Lake Travis Area?

Written by Cathy Hale | May 16, 2018

Mimi’s Cafe at the Hill Country Galleria closed its doors in April and sadly, Mercer Street Dance Hall, a beloved landmark in Dripping Springs, closed too.

On the bright side, you’ll get to welcome a new tenant to the space that was formerly Mimi’s and you can help rebuild that dance hall.

Plus, expanded hike and bike trails are on the way, which means more feet and fewer vehicles.

Lake Travis Artist Kelly Brynteson Creates Original Artwork for Mack, Jack & McConaughey

Written by Cathy Hale | April 11, 2018

This weekend, Mack, Jack & McConaughey (MJ&M) returns to Austin for its fifth annual fundraising event where artwork from one of Lake Travis’ own — resident Kelly Brynteson of Kelly J Studios — will be auctioned off at the fashion show at JW Marriott on Friday, April 13.

If the names Mack, Jack & McConaughey sound familiar to you, they should. And yes, it is that McConaughey.

MJ&M is a fantastic fundraising effort that began in 2013. Started by three Texas legends — Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, ACM Award-winning recording artist Jack Ingram, and ESPN analyst and Texas coaching legend Mack Brown — and dedicated to empowering children through education, health, and wellness.

Over the years, the nonprofit has given nearly 7.5 million dollars to charitable organizations. The funds raised through MJ&M 2018 will support CureDuchenne, Dell Children’s Medical Center, HeartGift, Just Keep Livin Foundation and The Rise School of Austin.
