Lake Travis’ Newest Tap Room at Infamous Brewing Company

Written by Mandy Spivey | January 23, 2014

There are big things brewing on Hudson Bend. Our friends at Infamous Brewing Company have been working since the first of the year to open their first tap room, complete with a 6-tap bar, seasonal brews and hang out zone.

Since legislation was passed by Rick Perry last June giving permission for breweries to sell beer directly to their customers to consume on site, IBC was interested in securing a space for their very own tap room.

Midway Food Park: Trailer Food Heaven

Written by Emily O'Shaughnessy | January 22, 2014

Midway Food Park

Any other families have those days where no one can agree where to eat? One person wants seafood, another loves BBQ, someone else craves Tex-Mex and the last doesn’t care as long as there’s a place for the kids to run around and burn some energy. Sound familiar? If only there were a place that could please everyone….

Amazingly, such a place actually exists (and nope, I’m not talking about the mall food court)! Midway Food Park is trailer food heaven, just a short drive from the Lake Travis area. The park opened last fall on Highway 360, about a mile south of Bee Cave Road. It currently consists of eight food trailers in a large fenced in area, with ample outdoor seating, a playground for the kids and clean, air-conditioned bathrooms (this may not sound like such a big deal in January, but wait ‘til July rolls around…).

Bee Cave Coffee: Serving Spicewood Roasted Cuvee Coffee and More

Written by Emily O'Shaughnessy | January 6, 2014

Bee Cave Coffee

Bee Cave Coffee Company, now open in the Hill Country Galleria, is the perfect spot to stop when you need that caffeine pick me up. The local, freshly roasted fair trade beans make every drink on the menu delicious. However, while the drinks are great, I was thrilled to discover Bee Cave Coffee Co. serves much more than just coffee. They also offer a full breakfast and lunch menu.

For breakfast you’ll find a variety of tacos made with cage-free eggs, burritos, croissant sandwiches and more. For lunch there are salads and sandwiches including a cage free fried egg grilled cheese sandwich with jalapeno bacon. Wowzers! The food is not the typical day-old danish that you’ll find at some coffee shops. Even the pastries are delicious and fresh (I should know—I happily finished my daughter’s giant blueberry muffin for her).

The Donut Hole: The Freshest Donuts in the Hill Country

Written by Cathy Hale | January 2, 2014

The Donut Hole

The Morning After. Pretty in Pink. Stars & Stripes. Smurf. You may think these are famous movie titles, but think again. If you live in the Lake Travis area, you probably know these are some of the most popular donuts in town.

Thanks to The Donut Hole, Lake Travis area residents have access to the freshest donuts in the Hill Country, not to mention the largest selection of colorful circular treats.

The Donut Hole is now located in Lakeway (2422 Ranch Road 620 S), Steiner Ranch (2900 N Quinlan Park Rd) and at the “Y” in Oak Hill (6863 Hwy 290 W), and on any given morning, there is standing room only at all three locations.

Lake Travis Area Excursion: Johnson City and Pecan Street Brewing

Written by Mandy Spivey | December 20, 2013

Pecan Street Brewing

Take a drive down scenic Highway 290 in the Hill Country. Forty-five miles west of Austin is the small town of Johnson City. The entire city sits on less than 1.5 square miles of land. In spite of this, the town carries with it a huge legacy; the city is the birthplace of President Lyndon Baines Johnson.

And there are big things brewing in Johnson City these days. Pecan Street Brewing, located in the heart of Johnson City’s town square across the street from the courthouse, is one of the newest business endeavors from Tim and Patti Elliot. The two originally met back in Austin while working at the Armadillo World Headquarters—she worked as a barmaid and he had the job as club handyman.

The famous institution, known for hosting the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bruce Springsteen, the Pointer Sisters and members of the Grateful Dead, was an Austin staple in the burgeoning 1970s music scene. At a time when the music genres of country, urban blues, and jazz coexisted together in the downtown scene, the AWH sought to bring these differing groups together under one roof.
