Lake Travis’ Newest Tap Room at Infamous Brewing Company

Written by Mandy Spivey | January 23, 2014

There are big things brewing on Hudson Bend. Our friends at Infamous Brewing Company have been working since the first of the year to open their first tap room, complete with a 6-tap bar, seasonal brews and hang out zone.

Since legislation was passed by Rick Perry last June giving permission for breweries to sell beer directly to their customers to consume on site, IBC was interested in securing a space for their very own tap room.

Lake Travis Area Excursion: Johnson City and Pecan Street Brewing

Written by Mandy Spivey | December 20, 2013

Pecan Street Brewing

Take a drive down scenic Highway 290 in the Hill Country. Forty-five miles west of Austin is the small town of Johnson City. The entire city sits on less than 1.5 square miles of land. In spite of this, the town carries with it a huge legacy; the city is the birthplace of President Lyndon Baines Johnson.

And there are big things brewing in Johnson City these days. Pecan Street Brewing, located in the heart of Johnson City’s town square across the street from the courthouse, is one of the newest business endeavors from Tim and Patti Elliot. The two originally met back in Austin while working at the Armadillo World Headquarters—she worked as a barmaid and he had the job as club handyman.

The famous institution, known for hosting the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bruce Springsteen, the Pointer Sisters and members of the Grateful Dead, was an Austin staple in the burgeoning 1970s music scene. At a time when the music genres of country, urban blues, and jazz coexisted together in the downtown scene, the AWH sought to bring these differing groups together under one roof.

Nightlife in the Lake Travis Area

Written by Mandy Spivey | November 14, 2013

Martinis and drinks

It’s Saturday night. Like most weeks, my days were spent more in front of a computer screen than in front of anything or anyone else. My old stand-by Saturday night routine of watching 2-3 hours of re-runs on Netflix until I fall asleep with the laptop dangerously close to overheating on my lap (hey, so warm and so cozy, right?), was not going to suffice any longer. No. Not tonight. Some nights, the want to get dressed up, go out, grab a drink, and enjoy the night is too strong to deny.

If you’re in the mood for a “downtown” or 6th street experience, the calmer lake scene might not do it for you. Even the most busy and crowded bars in Lake Travis are still not even a fraction of how intense a downtown party crowd would be. In other words, it’s quiet out here, but you still have your options for weekend evening entertainment around these parts. A special dinner, movie night, or conversation with friends over some nice cocktails—here are a few places to enjoy nightlife in the Lake Travis area.

Hecho En Mexico: Lucky Number 6?

Written by Todd Hower | October 8, 2013

Hecho En Mexico

The corner space right next to Cho Sushi in the Vista Ridge Shopping Center at Steiner Ranch is occupied by Hecho En Mexico — one of five restaurants taking a shot at serving the sophisticated palates of the Steiner Ranch community and Lake Travis area residents.

Hecho En Mexico took over the space in the fall of 2012 after the short-lived La Fuentes. When you’re craving some old school, gooey cheese, gravy smothered, traditional Tex-Mex, this is not the place. This is interior Mexican with an Oaxacan flair. You’ll discover unique and traditional flavors that you won’t find anywhere else in the Lake Travis area.
