We’ve had another week of soakers! And with the moisture that has been coming out of the Gulf, it’s feeling as humid as Houston around here!

Somehow, Tropical Storm Bill skirted around us and drenched everything just east of the Lake Travis area before it headed up to Dallas.

With some torrential downpours over the lake on Thursday afternoon, water is still flowing in and as of this Friday morning, Lake Travis is just shy of 670′ — 11 feet to full.

12 out of 13 public boat ramps on Lake Travis are open and most of Sometimes Island is underwater … but just under — so be careful if you’re taking dad out on the boat this weekend and navigating around the main basin. Word on the lake is that there’s still some debris floating around too.

You might remember back to April 1st when we announced that an iceberg would be arriving in Lake Travis by early June to fill up the lake.

Well, that didn’t really work out.

By the time the iceberg had reached the Gulf of Mexico, it was a lot smaller than expected.

But that’s okay — the month of May turned out to be one of the wettest on record. The predictions that El Niño would hit this spring were spot on.

Remember back to your summer break as a kid. You didn’t have a care in the world and every day was a new day. The days that filled the week were the same as the days that filled the weekend.

Summertime is a little different as a parent — and hopefully you survived the first week of summer break with your kids. The days might be all the same to them, but it’s the weekend for you! And you live in a beautiful place to enjoy a couple of days off.

It’s time to wind down … enjoy a sunset over the lake with some live music and family-friendly activities in the Lake Travis area.

School is out and the weekend that will kick-off the start of summer is here!

It’s hard to believe that another school year has gone by … and that Lake Travis is 13 feet away from full!

Congratulations to all the Lake Travis area students for a job well done. And a huge thank you goes out to all the teachers, administration, and everyone that is working behind the scenes and part of the force that makes up Lake Travis and Leander ISD. You are truly amazing! … and we hope you have a truly amazing summer!

The forecast for the weekend is more of what we’ve had for the past month. More rain passed through last night and Lake Travis reached 660 feet as of 7:00am — a few more feet and Sometimes Island will disappear.

With more than 30 feet of water in the past 30 days, Lake Travis is 21 feet away from reaching full pool at 681 feet. The water levels of Lake Travis are at their highest since 2011 … but still 12 feet below the average for this time of year.

We are excited to see the water level of Lake Travis on the rise after so many dry years. But unfortunately the cycle of the Highland Lakes is one of drought and deluge. Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the devastating floods in Central Texas.

We encourage you to take some time this weekend to donate or volunteer as flood relief efforts continue. Here is a list of organizations where you can volunteer and help Central Texas flood victims.
