KGSR’s Blues on the Green, a free concert series that runs every other Wednesday during the summer at Zilker Park, begins this Wednesday, June 4th .* Saints of Valory and special guest Wild Child kick off the 2014 season.
An Austin tradition now in its 24th year, Blues on the Green provides a fun, laid-back atmosphere that appeals to music-lovers of all ages. Best of all, it’s free!
There’s always a good mix of folks at Blues on Green, which makes for some pretty great people-watching. You’ll see families, after-work crowd, hipsters, retirees, artists, college students and more. It’s cool to see so many different types of people coming together for the same simple purpose — to enjoy outdoor live music on a beautiful summer night in Austin.
If You Go
Feel free to bring kids, dogs (on leashes), blankets, lawn chairs, etc. Bottled water is also encouraged, but technically no other outside food or alcohol is allowed (although you wouldn’t know it walking through the crowd). Of course I’d never encourage anyone to break any rules, I’m just giving you a heads up that if you don’t you might find yourself trying to make friends with the group next to you in hopes they’ll offer you a cold beer during the set. Just trying to help here (but whatever you do, don’t bring glass). Either way, there are plenty of vendors selling food and drinks – though no alcohol – and part of the fun is wandering around and checking out the booths.
The stage is located the east end of the park (for reference, the same place as the ACL main stage). Parking can be tricky, so come with patience for the traffic and be prepared to walk a ways. Or best of all, if you can get there early park and grab dinner at Chuy’s, Shady Grove or any of the other cool restaurants nearby and then walk over.

*Note: This concert was originally scheduled for May 28th, but due to the heavy rains and concern for the lawn it was rescheduled for tonight. The next concert will be June 11th, then alternate Wednesdays through August 6th.
