Flintrock, located eighteen miles northwest of Austin in Lakeway, is one of the newer neighborhoods in the Lake Travis area boasting gorgeous custom homes, top-rated schools, world-class golf and beautiful views of the Texas Hill Country. If you’re seeking an exclusive neighborhood where you can enjoy gorgeous sunsets, picturesque landscapes and convenience to everything you need, Flintrock might just be the place you want to call “home.”

The notoriously winding and steep Flint Rock Road leads you to the gated community of Flintrock Falls (on your right) and Bluffs at Flintrock (on your left) and then it winds through the Hill Country which lends itself to spectacular views of the homes and the hillside. The hustle and bustle of RR 620 quickly clears from your mind and you feel like you’ve been whisked away to a serene escape.

If it wasn’t for allergies and traffic, I’m pretty sure there would be a lot more people moving to Austin than the reported 110 that move here each day — this weather has been amazing!

Just in case you forgot — it’s Valentine’s Day this Saturday! You have one more day to grab some roses and those last minute gifts for your sweetie. With the day to celebrate romantic love falling on a Saturday this year, eating out will be a popular choice for many lovers in the area. If you haven’t made a reservation yet, you still have a chance to get lucky and find one at the many places offering a Valentine’s Day dinner in the Lake Travis area.

Pieous: Pizza with a Side of Pastrami

On a recent return from a weekend in San Antonio, I decided to avoid I-35 and take the back way along 281 north, through Blanco and the rolling hills of the Texas Hill Country — beautiful country. The trip eventually landed us on Highway 290 just east of Dripping Springs. And that put us just a few miles from the reason for the side trip on our way back to the Lake Travis area — a stop at Pieous.

Pieous has been showing up on my radar since they opened back in early 2013. Friends that live in Dripping Springs are excited to have one of the best pizza places in Austin right down the road. Austinites have been raving about Pieous since they opened. It’s not a place that I consider within the boundaries of the Lake Travis area, but more of a destination that is worth the trip when you have an opportunity to be on the southwest side of Austin. And after eating here, I do believe that I’ll be finding more reasons to visit this side of town.

Lake Travis Local: Meet Karen Killough of Oh Baby! Fitness Austin

Oh Baby! Fitness is a 10 year overnight success that launched with discussions around a dinner table. The company that started back in 2005 decided to break the mold of the traditional brick-and-mortar gym franchise model and go with a training, licensing and Internet support model.

Oh Baby! Fitness has quickly expanded into 15 states — which includes Texas — and has hopes of offering classes in all 50 states by the end of 2015.

Lake Travis Lifestyle had a chance to catch up with Karen Killough, a Lakeway instructor and owner of the Austin branch of Oh Baby! Fitness. We sat down to learn a few things about Karen and how Oh Baby! Fitness got started, what it’s like doing business in a community like Lake Travis, and what advice she has for others who have an idea they want to float into the entrepreneurial waters of our great town.
