Town & Country Leather and Chase Flooring Celebrate a New Showroom in Bee Cave

Written by Mandy Spivey | November 22, 2013

Town & Country Leather Grand Opening

Texas loves leather. The ruggedness. The versatility. The feel of well-conditioned cowhide. I have been drawn to leather all of my life, and even study leather crafting a bit on the side to supplement my love for all things tanned and western. So when I found out that Town & Country Leather was opening their third and newest showroom in the Lake Travis area, I had to check it out.

Out off Highway 71 in Bee Cave near the Galleria sits an historic building that you might remember used to house Estancia home furnishings. Oh, but did you also know that it was the ol’ honky-tonk Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys used to entertain area farmers and ranchers in years past?

Your Guide to Lake Travis Area Medical Care

Written by Mandy Spivey | November 19, 2013

Lakeway Regional Medical Center

Medical emergencies are never fun. I should know; when I had a fever that struck in the middle of the night and couldn’t stand up because of the intense stomach pains, I knew I couldn’t rely on good old fashioned taking ‘er easy and sleeping on the couch to pull me through.

Since I am relatively new to the area as well, I was up for the extra task of figuring out where to head for emergency treatment, and to my surprise, I had a few options. The Lake Travis area is home to several urgent and primary care centers, along with a full-service hospital that opened in April 2012.

Do you know which facilities are open and closest to you? Never fear, as we break down the Lake Travis area medical care centers to help guide you in the right direction.

Nightlife in the Lake Travis Area

Written by Mandy Spivey | November 14, 2013

Martinis and drinks

It’s Saturday night. Like most weeks, my days were spent more in front of a computer screen than in front of anything or anyone else. My old stand-by Saturday night routine of watching 2-3 hours of re-runs on Netflix until I fall asleep with the laptop dangerously close to overheating on my lap (hey, so warm and so cozy, right?), was not going to suffice any longer. No. Not tonight. Some nights, the want to get dressed up, go out, grab a drink, and enjoy the night is too strong to deny.

If you’re in the mood for a “downtown” or 6th street experience, the calmer lake scene might not do it for you. Even the most busy and crowded bars in Lake Travis are still not even a fraction of how intense a downtown party crowd would be. In other words, it’s quiet out here, but you still have your options for weekend evening entertainment around these parts. A special dinner, movie night, or conversation with friends over some nice cocktails—here are a few places to enjoy nightlife in the Lake Travis area.

The Official Beer of Lake Travis: Infamous Brewing Company

Written by Mandy Spivey | November 6, 2013

Josh Horowitz and Zack Perry of Infamous Brewing Company

The Austin craft beer scene is exploding. With the abundance of choice beers created in and around the city, don’t forget to try the burgeoning brews that are being bottled in our own backyard.

Located off Hudson Bend at 4602 Weletka Dr. sits Infamous Brewing Company, in a small, unassuming commercial park. But don’t let the quaint Lake vibe fool you—this brewery and its brews really pack a punch.

The story goes back to 2011. Living in Texas but originally from New York, Josh Horowitz was back in NYC and visiting a local bar he used to frequent to watch a football game. Zack Perry, a stranger at the time, was sitting at the same neighborhood bar, and through the matchmaking of their mutual bartender friend, the two met that very afternoon. Josh was homebrewing at the time and Zack was looking to branch off from Wall Street as an entrepreneur. And the idea for the brewery was hatched.

“More business ideas are spawned on Sunday afternoon, but come Monday morning most decide it’s not going to happen,” Zack remarks, reflecting back to the early days. It was that chance meeting that led to their business plans for the brewery.
