Lake Travis Area Pumpkin Patches

Written by Mandy Spivey | October 21, 2014

Pumpkin patches of Lake Travis

The Lake Travis area has its fair share of pumpkins for purchase, and whether you’re in the market for the perfect piece for carving or want to get your fall-themed pictures for the Halloween season, there’s no better place to search for one.

I took an afternoon to visit the orange patches, some with rows filled with hundreds of pumpkins, some in huge stacks waiting to be bought — some even decorating vintage bath tubs in the lawn.

With only a little more than a week left until Halloween, it’s time to get out there and find your perfect pumpkin. There are still plenty of shapes at sizes to find at these local pumpkin patches in the Lake Travis area.

Better Bites Bakery: Gluten-Free Treats for Everyone to Enjoy

Written by Mandy Spivey | October 20, 2014

Leah from Better Bites Bakery

Cupcakes, cake balls, cookie dough bites — there are so many amazing sweets making their way around the Austin food scene. Recent years have seen an explosion of delectable desserts being crafted in and around the Lake Travis area. One of my favorite bakeries to visit lately is Better Bites Bakery, Austin’s only certified gluten-free bakery. But that’s not their only selling point.

For too many years, cooking for the allergy-challenged has come at a great cost: from taste to price, very few gluten-free/dairy-free/vegan desserts seem to come close to comparison to their buttery brothers. That’s where Better Bites Bakery comes in, filling the empty wheat-free shelves of Austin with delicious after dinner sweets.

Yoga on Lake Travis at Zenergy

If you’ve had the chance to stop by The Oasis in the past couple months, you might have noticed a few extra yoga mats and colorful work out gear near the scenic overlooks on Lake Travis. The team of instructors at Zenergy Pilates, formerly Pilates at 4 Points, has been hard at work building out their new and improved Pilates, yoga and barre studio to serve the Lake Travis area.

Tessa Strader, a UT graduate and ex-accountant turned Pilates instructor, used to run the studio closer to Four Points and 2222, but over the years traffic has increased to the point of needing to switch buildings.

Sun Radio: Broadcasting Roots Rock N' Roll with Solar Power

Written by Mandy Spivey | October 2, 2014

100.1 Sun Radio

There’s a new sound being broadcast out of Bee Cave that seeks to shine a light on Austin’s music culture. And it’s all running on solar power.

If you haven’t had a chance to tune into 100.1 FM you might not have noticed the toe-tapping sounds of real Americana music that Sun Radio is blasting on the air waves. We’re talking genres from folk to rockabilly, honky tonk piano to smoking hot guitar.

What began as an off-the-air, low power FM station broadcasting out of a studio above a quilting studio in Dripping Springs has turned into a fully solar powered radio station at the Hill Country Galleria that reaches all over Central Texas and beyond, thanks to the wonders of internet radio.
