It’s been over a month since you’ve set that dreaded, obligatory New Year’s resolution for yourself.
You’re at the gym five days a week. You’re eating better. But you still can’t shed those unwanted pounds and tone those problem areas. Don’t let frustration get the best of you.
Maybe you just need a little guidance on how to feel empowered by your workout rather than overwhelmed by it.
That’s where Lake Travis’ personal trainer Ashley King of Ashley King Fitness comes in.
“I want women to be empowered and know the tools,” says Ashley. “I feel like so many women put themselves on the back burner, they don’t put themselves first, especially after they have kids.”
Ashley King has spent the last 12 years embracing a healthy lifestyle.
Having always been into fitness, and after becoming a personal trainer, Ashley chose to spend the last 5 years as a stay-at-home mom, just recently getting back to work.
Virtual Training
“Within the past year, I started training and I kept getting so many people wanting to train, but I can’t train everyone and I want to.” It’s that desire to help other moms and busy women like her, that Ashley started virtual training.
“I wanted to reach more people, I wanted to give them a structured workout that would help them get to a total body transformation as quickly as possible.”
Ashley’s virtual program offers both videos and a printout version you can pull up on your phone to workout anywhere, anytime. “It’s accessible from home or the gym; whenever you can fit 30 minutes/four days a week. Follow it and follow the meal plan and you will see major, major results.” explains Ashley.
Balanced Diet
Along with her in person and online training, this mom of three offers an E-cookbook, The Balanced Diet, Ashley King’s Cookbook and Diet Guide Manifesto.
Her nutrition theory?
Eat a balanced diet of clean foods. Sounds simple enough, right?
“You shouldn’t have to live your life counting calories and restricting. I don’t believe in taking out food groups. You need every food group and you need it all balanced. And that is the hardest thing for people to grasp and actually enforce. If you can eat in moderation and stick by that, you will see results.” Ashley insists.
The 80/20 Split
But you don’t have to eat that way 100% of the time. An 80/20 split is more the way to go.
“Otherwise,” she says, “you’re going to fall off.”
To prevent that diet stumble, have a cheat meal. Note: cheat meal, not cheat day. Have some pizza one night, or pasta. For Ashley that’s just fine because 80% of the time you’re eating well.
Healthy Family
But for many, a big roadblock to eating healthy is family members.
It could be your husband doesn’t follow your diet or maybe your kids eat separate meals and bring home cookies or other sugary snacks.
“My kids eat cupcakes — they eat Halloween candy too,” she smiles.
Remember, this health enthusiast is a mom too, and knows that feeling all too well. For her staying healthy is about getting the family involved.
Ashley’s tip?
Make meals and feed everyone the same thing. Maybe let the kids eat what they want for lunch, but at dinner everyone’s in the same boat.
Ninja Mama
You might think this busy mom of three would take a break every now and then, but this ball of energy is just getting started.
With personal training, virtual training, fitness modeling (oh yeah, she does that too) and family, what’s next for Ashley? She recently auditioned for NBC’s American Ninja Warrior.
“I thought, you know what, this sounds like a challenge.” And while some of us look at her life and feel it might be an exhausting challenge to begin with, Ashley is always looking to push herself.
It’s this will to push limits that makes Ashley effective in all she does, whether it be getting herself into shape or her clients.
