If this cray cray Texas heat has you holed up in your house, blasting the AC 24/7, then maybe it’s time to get out and have some fun supporting local initiatives in Lake Travis. After all, the 10-day forecast only calls for temperatures in the high 90s.
We’ve seen a refreshing rise in local art awareness with the opening of new art galleries and studios. (Don’t forget, the call for mural art entries are being accepted through August 31.) Additionally, the City of Bee Cave continues to make plans for connectivity with more bike and pedestrian trails to decrease traffic congestion.
You could say we’re flexing our right-brain muscles to let our creative side shine brighter.
That said, two free events are coming up at Hill Country Galleria: HEATWAVE presented by ContraCommon on August 30 and Bicycles, Blues & Brews on September 7.
HEATWAVE, literally and figuratively
ContraCommon at Hill Country Galleria is proud to present HEATWAVE, a group exhibition of new works by resident artists. HEATWAVE will kick off with an opening reception on Friday evening, August 30, from 7pm-10pm.
HEATWAVE signals the end of another hot Texas summer while premiering exciting multidisciplinary art by a collective of up-and-coming makers. You will enjoy a range of work including paintings, drawings, photography and multimedia installations by featured artists Dan Adams, Chris Ancarrow, Taylor Bailey, Carly Blaine, Monica “MB” Bushong, Marcella Colavecchio, Ben Faubion, Rachel Spits, Bradford Smitherman, and Lloyd Wyse.
The ContraCommon Lounge will feature live music and immersive installations by guest artists, as well as food and drinks courtesy of sponsors Treaty Oak Distilling, Waterloo Gin, Desert Door Texas Sotol, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Nomadic Beerworks, Topo Chico, and Pop’ Topia Pops.
The exhibit will run through September 22, 2019.
Bike with Blues & Brews
There are plans to create more hike and bike trails connecting residential neighborhoods to retailers to reduce traffic congestion and provide a safe and convenient alternative to driving.
So, grab your bikes and help the City of Bee Cave Parks celebrate the city’s plan at Bicycles, Blues & Brews on Saturday, September 7 at Hill Country Galleria. The event starts at the Central Plaza at 4 p.m.
Sing along to the blues and enjoy beer tastings from local breweries like Treaty Oak Distilling, Vista Brewing, and Circle Brewing. For our local cyclists, you’ll be happy to know Bicycle Sport Shop Bee Cave and MOD Bikes will be on-site to offer test bike rides, showcase demos, and talk to you about bicycle safety.
Plus, if you have questions or would like more info about these connectivity plans, City of Bee Cave Parks will be on-site to answer any questions. They’ll also be showcasing the completed and soon-to-be-completed portions of the trails.
While you enjoy biking in a vehicle-free zone, you can also enjoy some tunes. The music line-up and schedule is as follows:
4 p.m. — Marcus Morales
5 p.m. — The Matters
6 p.m. — Jacqui Walker
7 p.m. — Paul Oscher Band
8 p.m. — Mobley
