Be Alive and Be Well in Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | May 23, 2018

If you’ve lived in the Lake Travis area for a while, you may remember when Hill Country Apothecary opened its doors in 2014. It was the first pharmacy of its kind in the Lakeway area.

Today, the rest of the holistic vision that launched Hill Country Apothecary has taken shape in Bee Cave in the form of Alive + Well.

The beautiful new building located at 3944 S. Ranch Road 620 houses four businesses dedicated to health and wellness under the Alive + Well umbrella. You could say they are, in fact, alive and well in Lake Travis: Alive + Well, Elle’s Cafe & Coffee, Hill Country Apothecary, and Drip Drop IV Vitamin Bar.

Yoga, infrared sauna therapy, a Glutathione IV drip or avocado toast. Let’s take a look at the fab four who are all about your well-being, and conveniently located under one roof.

The backstory

The founder of Alive + Well, Adam Metcalf, strongly believes holistic alternatives can offer better, more consistent results than traditional medicine that’s often disconnected.

Adam grew up as a second-generation pharmacist, working in his father’s independent pharmacy. His experience working there taught him how important an independent pharmacist could be in community health care.

Adam was on a medical mission trip to Guatemala when his love of pharmacy and helping others merged, inspiring him to provide something more. This was when his vision for Alive + Well and its sister brands was born.

What is Alive + Well?

You could describe Alive + Well as a wellness center, but those two words don’t do it justice. Alive + Well is more like a healthy living destination that treats the mind, body, and spirit.

First, Alive + Well offers an array of services like yoga, acupuncture, massage therapy specializing in Ashiatsu and Thai, ionic foot baths, a float tank and infrared saunas.

Second, they offer consultative services to assist in things like nutrition, diet, functional medicine, and healing provisions.

Third, fourth and fifth …

Hill Country Apothecary is on-site as a compounding pharmacy.

Elle’s Cafe & Coffee is on-site serving fresh, healthy and flavorful food.

Drip Drop IV Vitamin Bar is on-site with IV therapy and B12 shots.

The space

Alive + Well officially opened its door on April 18. It’s a 7,500 square foot facility with a zen-like vibe.

Just like the four brands, the space is with intention. It’s bright and airy with a lovely wellness garden featuring native flora and an underground irrigation system. Walnut wood in the yoga studio and the cedar in the locker room are some of the natural wood touches throughout the space.

Elle’s Cafe & Coffee reflects a similar, airy ambiance with exciting textures and attention to detail.

Who can benefit from Alive + Well?

The obvious answer is anyone and everyone, regardless of age, gender or fitness level. The staff at Alive + Well is friendly and supportive, so you can walk right in and feel at home. Nothing is intimidating or condescending.

You may not know what you need or what alternative medicine is all about. Or you may know exactly what you need. All are acceptable because Alive + Well can support your health no matter where your starting point may be. And since everything is under one roof, they can treat the ‘whole person,’ even an appetite.

You’re treated with customized plans based on your specific needs with the goal of sustained health, not just temporary fixes. Rebuilding and preserving wellness is all about the mind-body connection. You can’t improve one without the other.

Elle’s Cafe & Coffee

Part of the vision of Alive + Well is to nourish the body with healthy, flavorful foods that taste great. That’s why they opened Elle’s Cafe & Coffee on the premises.

It’s a fast casual restaurant serving gluten-free fare from a menu developed by chefs at Austin’s renowned Contigo and Chicon restaurants.

Hill Country Apothecary

Hill Country Apothecary has its primary location in Alive + Well, however, Adam still has all of the professional grade supplements at both locations (1310 RR 620 South) to accommodate the surrounding community.

Drip Drop IV Vitamin Bar

In 2016, Adam opened Drip Drop IV Vitamin Bar, bringing IV vitamin therapy to the Austin community. They have a private IV lounge, so you can relax and let the RNs take care of you.

IV drips can be customized to do what you need from boosting immunity to detox to hangover relief (ouch!). Plus, they offer B12 shots to help you be your healthiest self.

If you’ve been to Alive + Well, what’s your favorite part? The garden? The delicious food? The amazing massages? The float tank? Let us know in the comments section on our Facebook page.
