There’s no Traffic in Austin. Just lots of Car Parties.

Written by Marjorie Vesper | November 16, 2015

Lakeway traffic jam

If you’re newer to Austin and the surrounding areas, you’ve likely been bewildered by the hubbub over bad traffic and road clogs.

If you’ve joined us from a Golden State to the west, or hail from the compact New England microstates, you’ve no doubt been stumped by the local declaration of horrible, vehicular conditions.

As confused as you are, the traffic which seems to cause so much bother likely leaves you blissed. An Austin newbie, your work-day commute has gone from somewhere around 7 hours to just 1, all in the time it took to pack up a moving van and strap the kids to the top.

But as you have no doubt noticed (cause you’re a local now), everyone in the country followed suit and hightailed it to our lovely Texas too, and in a hurry.

Leaving Lake Travis for Fall Camping in the Hill Country

Written by Tiffini Brock | November 12, 2015

Guadalupe River Camping CC Bendini

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! But we are not talking about mall Santa and fruitcake … at least not yet.

We are talking about camping season.

The weather is dropping from scorching to “ahhhhh” temperatures and it’s time to stock the cooler, pack up that tent, grab your sleeping bag and get out for a weekend of fall camping in the Hill Country.

We put together some of the best Hill Country campsites that are within a couple of hours drive time from the Lake Travis area. You’ll be far enough away from home to wind down and experience a sky filled with Hill Country stars … but you won’t have to spend half of your day on the road trying to get there.

The Real Power Behind the Growth of Lake Travis and Beyond

Written by John Moritz | November 11, 2015

Mansfield Dam and power station John Moritz

Cruising along Ranch Road 620 between Lakeway and Steiner Ranch, you can’t help but notice the majestic Mansfield Dam that holds back the waters of Lake Travis on the northeast side of the highway as you cross the Colorado River.

But if you take a quick glance toward the dam and look all the way down from the bridge to the river bottom, you’ll see a labyrinth of poles and wires that represent one of the primary reasons Lake Travis came into existence — and one of the primary reasons the Greater Austin area continues to flourish.

Pop Tarts

Gluten-Free. It goes way beyond a dietary restriction, it’s a lifestyle. Now the lifestyle is bringing delicious, gluten-free goodies to Lakeway via crafty baker and Lakeway-resident Karen Morgan and her business Blackbird Bakery.

Her first location has opened at the Lohmans Crossing Shopping Center in Lakeway and she could not be more excited about sharing her skills with the Lake Travis community.

We had the immense pleasure of sitting down with Karen to talk shop … gluten-free style.
