Joy to the Weird: Austin's Best Tacky Lights

It’s a yearly tradition in my family to venture out on Christmas Eve to see our town’s best Christmas lights. Over the years, I have had the chance to witness and view some of the most colorful and sometimes outrageous light displays around Texas, in Dallas and Austin alike.

Living near Lake Travis has put a fun spin on outdoor decorating, and like anything in Austin, it’s going to be a little on the weird side. When it’s time to grab the winter coats and head out for an evening of taking in Christmas’ electric glory, it’s always more fun to have a welcoming and well-decorated neighborhood to visit! That’s why this year I’m officially on the hunt for Austin’s best tacky lights, near and far.

Lakeway Medical Village: Say Howdy to New Hotels and The Goddard School in Lake Travis

News of growth in Lake Travis continues to make headlines with Lakeway Medical Village announcing it has new tenants, La Quinta and Marriott. The hotels, along with 100,000 square feet of general and medical space, will sit on the 65.9-acre tract in front of Lakeway Regional Medical Center. The Goddard School Lakeway broke ground on Oct. 24 and is expected to open in April 2015.

The sparkly new hotels won’t be terribly huge, but they will be decked out with the latest touches of technology and comfort. The La Quinta will have 80-90 rooms and the Marriott will probably be the same size, but the type of Marriott has not been determined yet. The project will most likely bring in retail and dining as well, since the visibility will be fantastic from RR 620.

Lake Travis Area Weekend Events: December 19 – 21

We are heading into the final weekend before Christmas!

If you’re like most of us, you probably have a few more gifts to grab. Be sure and check out the Shop & Drop with MyTime Kids Gym if you need a few hours of shopping without the little ones. And when you have everything wrapped up and you’re looking for something to do, check out the weekend events going on in and around the Lake Travis area.

If you want to feel like it’s winter here in Austin, head over to the Omni Barton Creek Resort for ice skating or catch the last snow day of the year at the Hill Country Galleria.

It looks like the rain will be tapering off and we’ll have a sunny weekend. Enjoy this beautiful place we get to call home!
