Lake Travis Area Weekend Events: December 26 – 28

We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! What a beautiful crisp day we had in Austin and the Hill Country. It was perfect for testing out new bikes, scooters and skateboards!

There’s still time to enjoy twinkling lights under the Texas sky right here in Lake Travis at Lakeway’s Trail of Lights. If you’re headed out to do some shopping this weekend, take a look at the extended shopping hours at Hill Country Galleria, where you can also catch some of the biggest box office hits if your feet need a rest.

Looking for something fun to do in the city? Check out “Holidaze Are Here Again” at Austin’s historic Esther’s Follies and laugh off a few holiday calories!

Tracking Santa, Magical Reindeer Food & Goodbye Elf on the Shelf

It’s hard to believe Christmas Eve is here and the lovable guy in the red suit will make his way around the world tonight, delivering gifts to everyone. If you haven’t checked out the official NORAD Santa Tracker, it’s an awesome interactive website where you can see the spectacular gift-giving adventure in 2D, 3D with Santa cams, videos, games, music and much more.

There’s a running total of gifts delivered, which is around 1.8 million right now, an alert letting you know where he just arrived and where he’s headed to next. There are plenty of apps in the iTunes store counting down the historic night as well is you need to track the fun on-the-go.

Joy to the Weird: Austin's Best Tacky Lights

It’s a yearly tradition in my family to venture out on Christmas Eve to see our town’s best Christmas lights. Over the years, I have had the chance to witness and view some of the most colorful and sometimes outrageous light displays around Texas, in Dallas and Austin alike.

Living near Lake Travis has put a fun spin on outdoor decorating, and like anything in Austin, it’s going to be a little on the weird side. When it’s time to grab the winter coats and head out for an evening of taking in Christmas’ electric glory, it’s always more fun to have a welcoming and well-decorated neighborhood to visit! That’s why this year I’m officially on the hunt for Austin’s best tacky lights, near and far.
