The 2014 Great American Beer Festival: Winning Austin Breweries

Written by Todd Hower | October 14, 2014

Oasis, Texas Brewing Co.

The 2014 Great American Beer Festival is over, and the hundreds of brewers from around the country have returned home.

Fortunately, whether you were a lucky ticket holder or not, you’ll still get the opportunity to sip on plenty of great Austin beers that people flocked to at the fest.

Of the 600 breweries that attended the fest, 234 breweries took home a medal in the beer competition. Lake Travis area residents may be happy to learn that gold medals were awarded to our very own Oasis Texas Brewing Company and Real Ale Brewing Co. along with several other local breweries bringing home silver and bronze.

Here are the winning breweries:

Zenergy Pilates: Spreading the Love of Pilates, Yoga and Barre

Written by Mandy Spivey | October 13, 2014

Yoga on Lake Travis at Zenergy

If you’ve had the chance to stop by The Oasis in the past couple months, you might have noticed a few extra yoga mats and colorful work out gear near the scenic overlooks on Lake Travis. The team of instructors at Zenergy Pilates, formerly Pilates at 4 Points, has been hard at work building out their new and improved Pilates, yoga and barre studio to serve the Lake Travis area.

Tessa Strader, a UT graduate and ex-accountant turned Pilates instructor, used to run the studio closer to Four Points and 2222, but over the years traffic has increased to the point of needing to switch buildings.

Lake Travis Area Weekend Events: October 10 – 12

Written by Todd Hower | October 10, 2014

LTL Weekend Oct10

It never comes soon enough, but it’s finally here — the weekend! We hope you had enough time to recover from last weekends activities and that you’re ready to get out there again and enjoy all the happenings in the Lake Travis area and beyond.

Around the lake this weekend, we have plenty of live music, Cars and Coffee at the Oasis, and the Lake Travis Relay — which is a pretty big deal in the open water racing world. It’s one of Austin’s top 10 recreational events, one of the top 50 open water races in the United States and one of the top 100 open water races in the world!

And in case you forgot, we live kinda close to a bunch of tall buildings and a park that is holding the second weekend of a little music festival known as the ACL Music Festival. If you’re not into the big city events, we recommend a road trip to New Braunfels for the 23rd Annual Gruene Music and Wine Fest going on in the Gruene Historic District.

Whatever you decide on, have a great weekend and we’ll see y’all out and about.

Socktober: Be Part of Making Good Stuff Happen

Written by Todd Hower | October 8, 2014

Did you know that socks are one of the most frequently requested items by shelters and often overlooked when people make donations?

Socktober is a campaign to get people to donate socks and other much needed goods to the homeless. It was started back in 2010 by a family as a fun way to get friends and loved ones involved in doing something important.

It was July of 2012 when the same family started a web show featuring Robby Novak, the ten year old YouTube sensation, also known as Kid President. He posts a video each Thursday encouraging his followers to “be more awesome”.
