Duchess of Lakeway Opens in Lake Travis: Get Your Shop On

Written by Cathy Hale | September 16, 2014

Duchess of Lakeway 2

Maria & Kyndal’s sister store, Duchess of Lakeway opened its doors on August 11, giving Lake Travis fashionistas another reason to shop. While Duchess boasts the same sophisticated yet fun, beachy vibe as Maria & Kyndal’s, the price point is lower, making it the perfect destination for cost-conscious customers.

This highly anticipated opening generated a big buzz in Austin because so many Lake Travis area residents are already such loyal shoppers at Maria & Kyndal’s in Westlake and Lakeway. Maria Harrington, who brought her boutique concept to Austin from Memphis a few years ago, has always been deeply passionate about the fashion industry and it shows. When LT gals heard they could get even more bang for their buck at Duchess, they started making room in their closets.

Lake Travis Community Library Presents Author Carole Sikes: Hudson Bend and the Birth of Lake Travis

Carole Sikes LT Library

We enjoy sharing with you a little bit about the history of the Lake Travis area here at LTL.

And if you’re familiar with the areas along Hudson Bend, nearby Steiner Ranch or Lakeway you might already know a bit about the foundation of the settling of our cherished land. Wiley Hudson was the first to purchase several plots here along the lush and abundant banks of the fertile Colorado River.

Then came the New Deal era and with it, Mansfield Dam.

Our beautiful Lake Travis was once a dream of Congressmen, construction workers and settlers, but after the building of the dam the lake became a veritable reality.

The harnessing of hydroelectric power would be able to bring electricity to the area, and with it, economic development. Without it we probably would not be here today.
