This Weekend in the Lake Travis Area: August 22 – 24

Written by Todd Hower | August 22, 2014

Lake Travis Weekend Events 082214

It’s the last weekend before school starts!

Are you going to get all rested up before Monday rolls around and come up with a plan for how you’re going to get your kids up early after a summer of sleeping in? Or are you going to get out there and dance the night away to some live music? Attend the Austin Bat Fest? The Hot Sauce Festival?

Don’t let the start of school (and the change in traffic that we’ll all experience Monday morning) get you down. Get out there and enjoy the weekend!

A Guide To Lake Travis Area Dermatology

Written by Cathy Hale | August 20, 2014

Lake Travis Area Dermatology

One of the great things about living in the Lake Travis area is we don’t have to leave our convenient “bubble” for exceptional dermatology and cosmetic treatments. We have some of the best dermatologists in Austin right in our own backyard.

So if you’re seeing a few discolored spots on your legs from sun exposure or you need a little vial of youth serum to ease all of that squinting in the sunshine (dang crow’s feet!), this post is for you.

Lake Travis Area History: Spicewood – "Gateway to the Hill Country"

Written by Todd Hower | August 19, 2014

Wide open acres, swimming holes, and the home of Country Music Legend Willie Nelson — these are just a few of the reasons that Spicewood, Texas is so loved around the Lake Travis area.

Nestled along the shores of Lake Travis in Burnet County, this Hill Country community is just 22 miles Southeast of the city lights of Austin. Spicewood has been hailed as the “Gateway to the Hill Country,” and rightly so. You can begin your Hill Country tour out to nearby towns such as Marble Falls, Burnet, Llano and Fredericksburg for a day trip, or plant yourself in Spicewood to take in its laid-back Texas vibes. It’s a quaint Texas town with a history all its own, and one you have to experience firsthand to truly comprehend.

Dell Diamond: Family-Friendly, Fireworks, Food and Fun!

Written by Emily O'Shaughnessy | August 18, 2014

There’s something right about a summer evening and baseball, and we’re lucky to have an amazing, family-friendly venue for it in our backyard. The Round Rock Express, a Triple-A team affiliated with the Texas Rangers, plays home games at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock. The games are fun and the entire family can enjoy a night at the ballpark for less than it costs to go to the movies.

The ballpark itself is great. It was built with families in mind, including a “Fun Zone” area that includes a playscape, full basketball court, bungee trampoline, rock climbing wall and more.  Several activities are free while others cost a small fee — or you can purchase a $10 wristband for unlimited access to all.  It’s entertaining for the kids and gives them the opportunity to do things they don’t normally get to do.

Design Lab Makes a Stylish Splash in Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | August 15, 2014

Austin may be known as the Music Capital of the World, but it’s also home to a thriving fashion and retail industry. Yesterday, on Design Lab Day (as proclaimed by Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell), Design Lab opened its doors at Oasis, Texas. This 3,000 square foot showroom overlooking Lake Travis is the brainchild of Austin’s most well-known designer Linda Asaf. It features over 27 diverse Texas-based fashion designers who are at the top of their game.

Located adjacent to the Oasis Restaurant at Lake Travis, Design Lab has an industrial-vintage theme with ample room to house current Texas designers. It can easily accommodate new lines and seasonal or pop-up collections, which makes it a relevant hub for Texas designers as industry growth continues. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Asaf at various events over the years, so I know if this is her vision it will be impeccable.
