The Musicians Woodshed: A Store and School that Rocks Lake Travis

Written by Cathy Hale | July 9, 2014

“If you can count to four, you can play the drums,” laughed Tony Walsh when he saw my six-year-old’s eyes light up, enamored with the shiny drum set.

Walsh, one of the owners of The Musicians Woodshed asked, “Have you ever played the drums?” “No? Well, give it a go!” My son hopped on the seat and Walsh started teaching him the basics. Ten minutes later, my son was grinning from ear-to-ear, happily chanting “1-2-3-4…” and playing the drums. Rock on.

We had stopped by the Woodshed for an impromptu visit and immediately understood why it has such a stellar reputation. The Musicians Woodshed, located at 3698 Ranch Road 620 South, is more than a music store — it’s an experience. They offer something for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned rocker or a classical pianist. The atmosphere is laid-back, fun, funky and very friendly.

Children’s Day Art Park: Fifty Cents for a Morning of Fun!

Written by Emily O'Shaughnessy | July 8, 2014

We’re well into summer, and if you’re looking for something different to do with the kids but the wallet hasn’t recovered from that Disney vacation you’re in luck.

This week Children’s Day Art Park returns to Symphony Square Amphitheater after a couple weeks off. It runs most Wednesday mornings in the summer from 9:30 to 11:30am. Each week there’s a different theme with unique performers on stage — everything from puppet shows, musicians, local artists and even a Teddy Bear picnic.

The gates open at 9:00am, and — get this — the cost is 50¢ per child, while adults get in free with paid child admission. I love that reversal. Let your kids treat you for once! The amount is just right. Fifty cents isn’t going to break the bank, but it’s enough for a child handing over two quarters from her piggy bank to appreciate the fact that she paid to see a live performance.

Lake Travis & The Hill Country: Home of the Best Wedding Venues in Texas

Written by Mandy Spivey | July 7, 2014

Hill Country Weddings

There are literally hundreds of romantic locales around the Austin area to get hitched.

Some of the best-rated and most enjoyed are right around the corner in our own backyard and in close-by neighboring towns such as Dripping Springs, Lago Vista and Wimberley. These Hill Country shindigs can take place at ranches, private estates, restored churches, and more.

In keeping with the true spirit of Lake Travis, there is a more relaxed and serene feel to the locations, giving brides and grooms a lot of breathing room on their big day. And with downtown Austin just a short 45 minute drive from most venues, out-of-town guests have the option of enjoying the best of both the country and the city.

Here are some of the best wedding venues in Lake Travis and the surrounding Hill Country:

Lake Travis Weekend Events 4th of July

One of the best things about summer is celebrating our beloved country’s independence. The 4th of July weekend in the Lake Travis area and beyond is filled with events that include neighborhood parades, cookouts, live music, and fireworks!

Lake Travis Lifestyle has put together some of the awesome ways you can celebrate the Red, White and Blue. It’s a big weekend that starts a little early with live music on Thursday night, so we decided to get this info out today instead of Friday. That way, you’ll have plenty of time to plan your social calendars for the three-day weekend (and we can take the day off on Friday).

Happy Independence Day and enjoy your weekend!
