The Best Sandwich in Lake Travis: Noble Sandwich Co.

Written by Mandy Spivey | June 9, 2014

The patio at Noble Sandwich Co.

What’s your favorite sandwich?

I like to think a person’s choice of sandwich says something about themselves.

Some sandwiches are serious and some are light, but whatever your favorite toppings or choice of bread — the sandwich is undeniably one of lunch’s best food offerings.

In the Lake Travis area, there have been a dearth of delis and sandwich shops to experience, so when I found out about Noble Sandwich Co., just up the road off Ranch Road 620, I had to see what all of the hype was about.

Hamilton Pool Preserve: The History and Beauty of a Texas Hill Country Swimming Hole

Written by Mandy Spivey | June 6, 2014

Inside the grotto at Hamilton Pool

Tucked away among lush ferns and babbling brooks in Dripping Springs sits beautiful and historical Hamilton Pool Preserve.

This Texas Hill Country swimming hole has a back story as colorful as its surroundings are beautiful. Many Austinites fall in love with the idyllic waterfalls and natural rock formations found along the paths and pool at Hamilton Pool.

It’s easy to spend a Saturday afternoon in the sun on the quaint shores of the pool, where you can relax and take in some of Central Texas’ most varied wildlife species. Take a hike around the green, lush plant communities that are so popular to the area to see what all of the hype is about.

Flores Mexican Restaurant: Tex-Mex in Lake Travis

Written by Todd Hower | June 5, 2014

Flores Mexican Restaurant

Many of you may remember Flores as the Mexican restaurant that first opened its doors in the corner spot in the strip of retail shops next to Home Depot at Four Points.

I must admit … I was never a huge fan of the location or the food at Flores — it was all pretty average. It was more about having a place to go for halfway decent tex-mex without making the trek to Chuy’s and waiting an hour for a table.

But just like many of you, I kept going back — the place was always packed. And after trying a few more dishes, I really started to like the tex-mex at Flores.

Blues on the Green is Back!

Written by Emily O'Shaughnessy | June 4, 2014

IMG_3535KGSR’s Blues on the Green, a free concert series that runs every other Wednesday during the summer at Zilker Park, begins this Wednesday, June 4th .*  Saints of Valory and special guest Wild Child kick off the 2014 season.

An Austin tradition now in its 24th year, Blues on the Green provides a fun, laid-back atmosphere that appeals to music-lovers of all ages. Best of all, it’s free!

There’s always a good mix of folks at Blues on Green, which makes for some pretty great people-watching. You’ll see families, after-work crowd, hipsters, retirees, artists, college students and more. It’s cool to see so many different types of people coming together for the same simple purpose — to enjoy outdoor live music on a beautiful summer night in Austin.

Lakeway Swim Center and Skate Park: Stay Cool This Summer

Written by Cathy Hale | June 3, 2014

Lakeway Swim Center

The Lakeway Swim Center is like having a private water park in your own backyard. And on June 7, it is open for the summer season.

Let the water fun and “watch me’s” commence!

If you haven’t been to the Swim Center yet, you are missing out on a fantastic facility with tons of great amenities located right in the heart of Lakeway with enough activities to put a smile on your face all summer long. (Especially if your kiddos are tall enough to ride the water slides — 48″ tall — no exceptions!)

The facility has a huge leisure pool with a shallow beach-like entry that’s the perfect spot for little ones to splish and splash. They can ride the famous “Froggy” slide by climbing up the frog’s back and sliding down his tongue — it’s pretty thrilling for toddlers. You aren’t allowed to bring floaties for small children, but the pool offers U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets in all sizes.
