Thai Spice Lakeway – The Real Deal

Written by Todd Hower | September 17, 2013

Thai Spice

Thai Spice is one of the amazing places that is a solid Asian addition to the Lake Travis area food scene. The restaurant is located in the Lakeway Town Center II at the intersection of Lohmans Crossing and 620, across the parking lot from Mangieri’s Pizza. (map)

Thai Spice is on the corner of the shopping center, giving the restaurant a spread-out feeling and a sweet back dining patio. The bonus to the location on the end is having windows along the front, side, and rear of the restaurant to provide plenty of natural light.

With reasonable prices and a friendly environment, Thai Spice is the real deal. The owner and his family have been part of the Lake Travis community for over 10 years. They also have a second location in the Westlake area.

Thai Spice offers a huge variety of Thai dishes along with some fresh and flavorful Japanese options coming out of  the sushi bar. You can’t go wrong with the traditional Pad Thai or a bowl of Tom Ka soup. You’ll have plenty of rice and noodle options to choose from along with five different types of curries. The three pepper items are truly spicy!

Mountain Bikers, Hikers, and Evil Dogs

Evil Dog

On a recent mountain bike ride, a dog bit my foot! I was minding my own business riding down the trail when this evil dog came from the other direction and clamped onto my foot!

Now you might be thinking, here comes a rant complete with a new Lake Travis area Facebook Page — Mountain Bikers Against Unleashed Dogs and Owners.

Well … not today.

Save the Date – Save Lake Travis

Save Lake Travis Fundraising Party 1

As the water supply in the Lake Travis area nears the lowest levels in history, LCRA is sending  more water downstream to maintain shoreline habitats.

Yesterday, I wrote a Plea from One Lake Travis Lover to Another.

Today, I want to make you aware of an upcoming event that you can attend and help make a difference in how the area lakes are being managed.

Mark your calenders for the Save Lake Travis Fundraising Party happening September 28, 2013.

Admission is free, but the Central Texas Water Coalition is desperately seeking donations. They need your donations to help with legal costs, funding for needed scientific research, and education efforts. CTWC is fighting to protect our lakes from continuing to be drained to provide enormous amounts of water for rice farming. All proceeds will go to help CTWC and Friends of CTWC. If we don’t change current LCRA policies, we are destined to have lower and lower lake levels.

A Plea from One Lake Travis Lover to Another

Lake Travis Drought

Think about the first time you drove out to the lake and the view of open hill country with the waters of Lake Travis came into sight. Things looked a lot different if it was a time when Lake Travis was full.

Beautiful scenery, amenities, and recreational opportunities are all part of what makes this place we call home so special. Lake Travis is the main reason we have seen significant residential and commercial growth in the area. Recent traffic issues in the area might have you arguing that we’ve seen enough!

Most visitors don’t come to the Austin area without a visit to the lakes or an evening spent watching the sun going down over Lake Travis. A full Lake Travis provides the area with a significant amount of revenue.

Written by Addi Hower | September 11, 2013

Cheer Station

With the start of football season, Just for Kids writer Addi Hower talks about options for cheerleading in the Lake Travis area.

Cheer Station is a fun cheer place where boys and girls can cheer. Cheer Station is locatid in the Andirson Mill and 183 area. A lot of kids from the Lake Travis area go there.

If you want somthing more in the area, you could go to Pop Warner Cheer.

Ther are some difrences about Cheer Station and Pop Warner. Cheer Station is competative cheer were you just have practive and competion. Pop Warner is were you cheer at football games.

If you join Pop Warner, be prepared for a big week of boot camp! In boot camp, you learn your routine. You do choreography camp in Cheer Station to learn your routine.

It is really fun! Have fun cheering!
