Whether you spent all day trapped in the home office or just made your way through an hour of traffic to get back home, the big draw for many of us living in the Lake Travis area is the beauty that surrounds us. And at the end of the day, we can step outside to take in all in.
Some days you’re just looking for a quiet place to relax after a busy day. Other days you’re looking to pair up your sunset with some food and drinks.
From the north shore in Volente and all the way around the main basin of Lake Travis out to Spicewood — there are plenty of ways and places to enjoy the last golden rays of daytime.
Here are 10 places to enjoy a Lake Travis sunset:
Shore Club in Volente Beach – One of the best ways to enjoy a classic sunset is on the shores of glittering Lake Travis. You might just be wrapping up your day at the water park or on your way to enjoy a burger and round of drinks at their restaurant. Either way you have a premium view of the last rays of the day that will rival most lake-themed postcards.
Oasis Texas Brewing Company – Don’t forget about the amazing lookouts at The Oasis (the sunset capital of Texas). And one of the newest hangouts on the lake, Oasis Texas Brewing Company. From Thursday to Sunday you can saddle up with some of the best brews and views of Lake Travis — and don’t even get me started on the sunsets.
Mount Bonnell – Although it is technically located along Lake Austin, it’s just around the corner and one of the best places in Austin to see a gorgeous sunset. Far off in the distance you can see historic Pennybacker Bridge, and if you come during the right times you can see for miles. This is a super place to bring out-of-towners, as well, so take a friend and enjoy the evening.
Lakeway City Park – One of the most spacious and beautiful places to take in the final moments of daylight are in Lakeway at Lakeway City Park. Here you can bring your pooch for some exercise on the handful of winding trails — several that go right up to the edge of the water. Native flora and fauna make appearances throughout the acreage, so bring your binoculars if you like to spot rare birds while you wait for the sun to set.
Whole Foods Market in Bee Cave – Sunsets happen around one of the more hungry times of the day. When you’re in the mood for a relaxing evening watching the sunset, you can head up to the balcony at Whole Foods in Bee Cave for a great view. Grab some dinner from the fresh foods section and a beer or two from The Buzz. It makes for a rather tasty and relaxing way to enjoy the last bit of the day.
Maudie’s Tex-Mex – If you’re a fan of outdoor patios, welcome to one of the best areas to live for outdoor eating. In Bee Cave, Maudie’s has a super patio of shaded eating space, which happens to have a great view of the sunset when evening hits. Bonus points for serving fresh Tex-Mex and great margaritas. I can’t think of a better way to end the day, personally.
Hill Country Golf and Guitar – The Lake Travis area is more than renowned for world-class golf courses, but starting in 2014 the new Hill Country Golf and Guitar made a big opening, offering Austinites rockin’ food and drinks with mini-golf — and another cool spot for live music and a sunset.
Solid Rock Brewing – If you happen to be in Spicewood on a Saturday evening to catch the open tap room at Solid Rock Brewing you’re likely to find a few things: friendly faces, ice cold beers, rotating food choices and musical guests that make you remember why you moved to the Lake Travis area in the first place. The Hill Country area is home to more than it’s fair share of artists, brewers and the like, so it’s always a fun time. Bring a blanket and the kids for a wonderful evening.
On the water – If you’ve been lucky enough to hit the open waters this spring, you already know of the amazing sunsets that can only be seen from the surface of the water. Whether you’re in a boat, on a stand up paddle board or catching the evening breeze as you sail around the lake — it’s hard to beat a sunset on the water.
Your own backyard — Possibly the best way to take in a sunset. However you like to end your day, it’s always better with a beautiful sunset to enjoy.
