There are many things I love about the Lake Travis area during the holidays, but one of my favorite local traditions is the decorated cedar trees sprinkled around town. Hundreds of brightly colored, festive trees brighten the roadways in and around Austin. You’ll see a little bit of everything – Austinites are known for their creativity, and it’s on full display each year from Thanksgiving to the New Year!
The sky’s the limit when it comes to decorating the cedars. I’ve seen Barbie trees, Elvis trees, trees covered in plastic flamingos and others full of teddy bears. Some are adorned with sports team paraphernalia (the Green Bay Packers fans near my house went all out!). I’ve also seen trees decorated by organizations such as boy scouts, nonprofits or local corporations. Others promote important causes, such as those decorated with pink ribbon for breast cancer.
